Leigh Ann Doyle, an account manager here at PMG, has recently been appointed to the Direct Marketing Association of Washington Educational Foundation’s (DMAW/EF) Board of Directors. Leigh Ann’s involvement began well before she began volunteering for the organization. In fact, it goes back to her college days.
The DMAW/EF is a non-profit organization that educates young individuals about the possibilities and potential of choosing direct marketing as a career. DMAW/EF helps inspire and educate college students and their professors through direct marketing courses, programs, and awards.
One of the perks of the DMAW/EF is the opportunity for students to participate in the Mentor for a Day program where marketing firms and companies allow students to shadow in their offices and experience the many different jobs available in the field. Not only do students get a tour of the facility and see how everything works, but they are introduced to employees that work in different areas to gain an overall picture of the range of career opportunities.
Encouraged by Paula Morris, one of her professors, Leigh Ann participated in the foundation’s Mentor for a Day program while studying at Salisbury University as a marketing major. Assigned to PMG, one of the companies that have participated in Mentor for a Day since its inception, Leigh Ann says it was a “fantastic experience that allowed me to venture out of the classroom for a day to see what different positions or career paths might be like within direct marketing.”
A few weeks after her Mentor for a Day experience, she accepted an internship position at PMG and in 2013 she began working for us full-time as a production coordinator and was subsequently promoted to account manager.
Having participated in the DMAW/EF’s Mentor for a Day program while in college, Leigh Ann clearly saw the value in the services they provide students. She wanted to give back to the program that helped her get her start in the direct marketing industry so she began to volunteer for the DMAW/EF and has helped with training programs, events and brainstorming ways to involve more students. Because of all her hard work and dedication to the foundation, this past December Leigh Ann was unanimously elected to the DMAW/EF Board of Directors.
Congrats Leigh Ann – we love your Caring Spirit and are proud that you’re a member of the PMG family!
